Greek head coach Elias Zouros of Lithuania’s basketball team Zalgiris Kaunas was replaced by his assistant, Saulius Stombergas, reports ELTA.
Forty-seven-year-old Zouros was fired after an unsuccessful start in the Euroleague, with the last straw being the Zalgiris Kaunas loss to Siauliai.
“The last weeks revealed that team Zalgiris and the coach were not on the same wave-length. In summer, when Zouros was asked about the future of the team, it seemed that we agreed, but the real implementation of the goals has not yet started. We lacked clearness in the management of the team. We did not feel the coach believed in our vision, our players and our strategy,” said director of Zalgiris Kaunas, Paulius Motiejunas.
