RIGA - Latvia’s culture minister, Zaneta Jaunzeme-Grende, has been fired by the prime minister, reports LETA. Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovkis signed a decree on Sept. 16 releasing the culture minister after saying that she had fallen into conflict with the culture sector. In an earlier statement, Dombrovkis said a number of issues had arisen which had led to her dismissal.

“Unfortunately, as we can see, such cases tend to repeat and the minister’s dialogue with the culture sector is not successful,” he said. Justice Minister Janis Bordans has been appointed acting culture minister.
