Peres on state visit next week

Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite next week will meet with the president of Israel, Shimon Peres, who is coming to Lithuania on a state visit, reports ELTA. The Israeli president and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, born in Lithuania, will make a visit to the country at the invitation of President Grybauskaite on the eve of his 90th birthday.

The two presidents will discuss bilateral relations, the EU-Israel relationship, the situation in the Middle East, the perpetuation of the memory of Holocaust victims and Jewish cultural heritage issues, as well as cooperation in promoting innovation and high technologies.

According to Grybauskaite, innovation advancement, development and application in everyday life is a priority sphere for the Lithuanian economy; therefore, it is particularly important to fully and effectively exploit the potential of cooperation with Israel, a global leader in the fields of high-tech and research.

The president of Israel will be on a state visit to Lithuania for two days.
