According to Lithuania’s Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius, a plan for reducing youth unemployment at the European Union (EU) level will be prepared this December, reports ELTA. The reduction of youth unemployment as one of the priorities of Lithuania’s Presidency of the EU Council was highlighted by Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite as well in her speech related to the priorities of Lithuania’s Presidency of the EU Council of the European Parliament on July 3.

While giving an interview on radio Ziniu Radijas, the prime minister said that the main role in the reduction of youth unemployment will be played by Lithuania during the Presidency and that more concrete decisions will be made in December.

“During the period of our Presidency, the main problems of unemployment will be given great attention, especially the problems related to youth unemployment. I can say that the plan for youth unemployment reduction in the EU will be prepared in December. I do not speak about the level of our country because it is necessary to understand that now, when we are presiding, the problems of all member states of the EU are being solved,” said Butkevicius.
