RIGA - During an emergency Jurmala City Council meeting on April 2, City Councilman Juris Visockis (Unity) was voted in as the city's new mayor, Jurmala City Council spokeswoman Veronika Ramane informed LETA.

Nine Jurmala City Council members voted “for” Visockis, while five abstained.

As reported, now-former Mayor Gatis Truksnis (Union of Greens and Farmers) was ousted by a vote of no confidence on Tuesday.

Eight Jurmala City Council members voted for ousting Truksnis, while four abstained.

Corrupt and unethical conduct is what upsets the eight, as allegedly Truksnis has been using taxpayers' money for his (re)election or self-promotion campaign.
