RIGA - The Riga City Council should take responsibility for the incidents that occurred at the Freedom Monument on March 16, Latvian Legion Day, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity) told the LNT morning show "900 sekundes" this morning.

Dombrovskis believes that the municipality should not have allowed such provocations.

As reported, the Security Police warned the Riga City Council ahead of March 16 events that simultaneous protest and support rallies could lead to emotional and hostile communication escalating to physical confrontation between the opposing sides.

LETA also reported that this past Saturday, the solemn WWII Latvian Legion remembrance proceedings at the Freedom Monument were disturbed by loud sirens and obnoxious Russian music.
