Grain harvest hits record

RIGA - In 2012, for the first time in Latvia’s history, the grain harvest reached 2.1 million tons, a 50.5 percent increase on 2011, according to the Central Statistical Bureau data, reports Nozare.lv. The cereal yield rose to 37 quintals per hectare.The area of cereal cropland comprised 574,600 hectares in 2012 - the largest area in the past 18 years, and 48,000 hectares or 9.1 percent more than in 2011.
