Butkevicius says there are no other alternatives but euro adoption

VILNIUS - Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius says that in a way Lithuania already has euro as litas is associated with it and Lithuania has no other choice but to adopt euro as soon as possible, writes LETA.

"I think that Lithuania does not have any other choices. We already have euro de facto because litas is pegged to euro, and the best thing to do is to adopt euro as soon as possible and then we would not have it de facto but de jure," said Butkevicius on the national radio today.

However, Butkevicius says that the Government's goal to get the euro by 2015 does not mean that this will definitely happen.

"I saw some people saying that we have promised to do it but there is a difference between the promise and aspiration," said the PM.
