RIGA - Latvian-Russian relations can be improved if both sides want this to happen, if they agree to avoid heated debates and work on the principles of mutual benefit and respect, Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (Reform Party) pointed out in an interview with the newspaper “Vesti Segodna,” writes LETA.

The Latvian side is ready for this, outlined Rinkevics.

The minister admitted that 2012 was a complicated year in the Latvian-Russian relations. However, he believes that the situation should be viewed through more than just a black and white prism.

Rinkevics pointed out that there is progress in many areas - economic relations are developing, trade volumes are growing. There is also excellent cooperation regarding transit to Afghanistan. These are positive developments that should not be underestimated. Unfortunately, some people like to exacerbate issues instead of seeing the good, said the minister.
