Lithuanian – Russian demarcation finished

VILNIUS - On October 9 - 12, a meeting of the Joint Lithuanian-Russian Demarcation Commission was held in Neringa, during which demarcation works were completed on the Curonian Spit, urm.lt reports.
Demarcation works in this area are complex due to exceptional conditions – the border stretches over sand dunes, so a line of special plastic border demarcation posts is a necessary protection from shifting sand dunes.

The meeting also assessed the demarcation works of the state border that were performed on the Curonian Spit.
The Joint Lithuanian-Russian Demarcation Commission was set up in 2006. During this period, the Commission completed hydrographical measurements of the Nemunas River section at the state border, which will allow determining the state border in the river. The Commission also demarcated the state border in Lake Vistytis and Matlaukis pond.
