EM: 485 electric cars will be sold by the end of 2014

TALLINN - According to the forecast of the Estonian Economy Ministry, Estonian people should have bought 485 electric cars and 103 plug-in hybrids with the help of Kredex by the end of 2014, Postimees Online reports.

So far, just 40 applications have been submitted to get the support, one of which has been rejected since the car did not correspond to requirements.

The ministry estimates that the reason for such low interest towards electric cars is that car buyers do not have yet the confidence to start using an electric car.

The ministry also estimates that the choice at the market is inadequate and if the support project is too short, car dealerships will not have time to bring new and more attractive models to the market.

Currently the support can be applied till November 30 but an agreement has been achieved with the quota buyer that the payments deadline would be extended till the end of 2014.
