The implementation of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Klaipeda is in line with the schedule, says Nerijus Udrenas, President Dalia Grybauskaite’s chief adviser on economic and social policy issues, reports ELTA. “The project is moving to schedule. We have started constructing a LNG tanker, which will be completed in early 2014 and moored in Klaipeda during the second half of 2014,” he said on Sept. 25 on radio Ziniu Radijas. The building of the storage tank containing the gasification facility was officially launched in South Korea two weeks ago. The vessel-storage tank is expected to be shipped to Klaipeda port in the second half of 2014. LNG operations are planned to start at the end of 2014.

Experts at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) give hope that Lithuania will be allowed to export its food production to the U.S., reports ELTA. The experts presented the audit results of the carried out research on the state control system ensuring the safety of the meat sector. However, the experts highlight that if Lithuania is granted permission to export to the U.S., each company wishing to export will still be assessed additionally. According to Director of the State Food and Veterinary Service of Lithuania (VMVT) Jonas Milius, this visit was one the most important stages in the negotiations for permission to export Lithuanian meat products to the U.S. “We can already say that the national food control system operating in Lithuania meets all the requirements, and the minor discrepancies found during the audit will not affect the overall conclusions,” said the leader of FSIS Audit Team, Faiz Agarib.
