Law amendment would resolve question of Lithuanian citizenship's continuity

VILNIUS - Lithuanian Member of Parliament Arminas Lydeka proposes to grant people with Lithuanian citizenship along with the citizenship of the other country if they themselves, one of their parents or grandparents had emigrated from Lithuania being its citizens until June 15, 1940.

"Once such statutory provision stipulating that former Lithuanian citizens (by 1940, June 15) can have a double citizenship is adopted the preservation and continuity of Lithuanian citizenship acquired at birth would be ensured," says Chairman of Committee on Human Rights Arminas Lydeka, informs LETA/ELTA.

"As a result, Lithuania would not loose a part of its citizens and stronger emotional connection with Lithuania would be preserved," Lydeka added.
