Estonia marks re-independence

TALLINN - On Aug. 20, 21 years ago, the Estonian Supreme Council approved its decision on Estonia’s national independence, with 69 MPs voting in favor, reports National Broadcasting. The Supreme Council that was vested with the tasks of the national Parliament made the decision at 23:03.The event was preceded by the August coup in Moscow whereby those who were dissatisfied with the weakening of the Soviet Union tried to topple President Mikhail Gorbachev.
