Population split on Expo

RIGA - Forty-eight percent of economically-active Latvian residents do not support Latvia’s participation in the international fair World Expo 2015, according to a survey carried out by the market, social and media research company TNS Latvia and the LNT television channel, reports Nozare.lv. Nineteen percent of respondents are confident that Latvia should not participate in the exhibition, 29 percent are inclined to believe that the country should not take part in the fair.
Forty-three percent approve of Latvia’s participation in World Expo 2015. Sixteen percent believe that the country should definitely participate in the exhibition, 27 percent believe that the country should rather take part in it than not. Nine percent have no opinion.

The survey was carried out from June 19 to June 21; altogether, 700 residents aged 18 to 55 were interviewed.
In World Expo 2015, which will be held in Milan, Latvian scientists and producers will present their accomplishments and new technologies in the food industry. Latvia’s concept relates to the Expo Milano 2015 sub-theme ‘food for a better lifestyle,’ which will allow for the presentation of Latvia as a country where products are produced in a clean environment.
Latvia’s motto will be ‘the Bee Garden of Life.’ A bee garden was chosen since three of its components - bees, water and humans - are essential for the successful existence of humanity.

According to provisional estimates, the project will cost 4,023,600 lats (5.7 million euros).
