Kubilius: we need to regain history

VILNIUS - Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius met with the Lithuanian Jewish community to discuss preservation of Jewish cultural and historic heritage, commemoration of the Holocaust, and education of the Jewish minority, the government’s press service reports.

"We have to talk openly about the Holocaust in schools. We need to regain history and awareness as regards contribution of Jewish, Polish, Belarusians and other nations to the full picture of the common history of Lithuania," said the prime minister.

He also underlined the importance of further efforts in protecting, preserving, studying and presenting the unique Jewish cultural heritage.

Other agenda issues included implementation of the Law on Good Will Compensation for the Property of Jewish Religious Communities, and operation of the Goodwill Foundation entitled to dispose of compensations for the Lithuanian Jewish religious community.
