Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Mrs. Evelin Ilves depart from Tallinn.
RIGA - Today, Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and First Lady Evelin Ilves will arrive on a three-day state visit to Latvia, LETA was informed by the Presidential Press Service.
At 7.53 a.m., Ilves and his significant other boarded "Edelaraudtee" train in Tallinn and departed for Riga, the Estonian newspaper "Postimees" reports.
The train will travel the route Tallinn-Tartu-Valga and arrive at the Riga Central Station at 1.32 p.m.
By travelling to Riga by train, Ilves wishes to emphasize the special neighborly relations between Estonia and Latvia and the importance of "Rail Baltic" route. It is planned that "Rail Baltic" will run from Helsinki via the Baltic states and Poland to Berlin.
The official welcoming ceremony will be held at 2.30 p.m. at Riga Castle, At 4.05 p.m., after Ilves' meeting with Latvian President Andris Berzins, both presidents will hold a joint press conference.
Later on, Ilves will lay flowers at the Freedom Monument and the monument to former Latvian President Janis Cakste.
At 7 p.m., the Estonian president will conclude the day with a dinner in Small Guild Hall.
At 10.a.m. tomorrow, Berzins and Ilves will open a Latvia-Estonia business forum at the ''Radisson Blu Daugava'' hotel. At 11 a.m., Ilves will visit the Riga Estonian Primary School.
Afterwards, the Estonian president will meet with Saeima Speaker Solvita Aboltina (Unity), Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity) and Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs (Harmony Center).
At 5 p.m., Estonian Ambassador to Latvia Mati Vaarmann will host a reception on "Tallink" in honor of the Estonian president.
