Latvian soldiers to return from Afghanistan

RIGA - Today, more than 100 Latvian soldiers, who were serving in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) in Afghanistan, will return to Latvia, LETA learned from the Defense Ministry's press department.

The welcoming ceremony will be held at the Adazi Military Base. Defense Artis Pabriks (Unity), National Armed Forces Commander Mayor General Raimonds Graube, other military officials and relatives of soldiers will participate in it.

The rotation of the Latvian contingent to Afghanistan will conclude on June 13, when the remaining 46 soldiers will return to Latvia.

At the moment, more than 180 Latvian soldiers serve in Afghanistan.

Latviaparticipates in the NATO-led international operation in Afghanistan since February 2003. ISAF provides support to the Afghan government to ensure stability in the country.
