RIGA - The Security Police have arrested a suspected ring of Porsche Cayenne thieves, consisting of 12 persons, including a police officer, the mastermind behind the theft.
Security Police acting chief Juris Leitietis informed LETA that a criminal process on large-scale theft was launched on April 13. The group was detained in cooperation with Highway Police and "Omega" special unit officers on April 30.
12 searches were conducted during the investigation, seizing several firearms - a carbine, a combination gun, a sniper rifle, ammo, four scanners, signal dampers, walkie-talkies, which, according to the Security Police, were used to plan and carry out auto theft.
The pre-trial investigation continues.
