Tallinn ranks second after Vilnius among EU countries’ capitals, as reported in a recent crime report compiled by Eurostat, writes Delfi.ee.

An average of 7.9 murders per 100,000 residents are committed each year in Vilnius. In Tallinn, this number is approximately six per 100,000 residents. The Latvian capital Riga was not included in the comparison as murders and attempted murders are put in the same category in Latvia for statistical purposes.

Baltic capitals are followed in this grim top list by the Benelux capitals: Luxembourg ranked third with 4.24 murders per 100,000 residents, Amsterdam (3.65) ranked fourth and Brussels (3.09) ranked fifth.
