Estonia ramps up shale oil production

TALLINN - Estonia is quietly moving towards self-sufficiency in oil and motor fuels and, as international crude oil prices hover over $100/barrel, the country’s two major energy producers, Eesti Energia and VKG Oil, have revived plans to leverage shale oil expertise into large-scale oil and fuel projects in Estonia, the Middle East and the United States.If both companies’ plans are fully developed, domestic crude oil production from oil shale in Estonia would increase to over 30,000 barrels per day by 2020, while domestic diesel production could total up to 20,000 barrels ...
