RIGA - The Administrative District Court on March 12 decided to lift the Riga City Council's ban on Uldis Freimanis' March 16 rally, LETA was informed by court chairwoman's aide Inese Deme.

This means that Freimanis will be able to organize his previously-planned assembly. The court's ruling is carried out immediately, but may be appealed to the Supreme Court Senate within 30 days.

Freimanis' rally will be held at Riga's ''Laima'' clock near the Freedom Monument this Friday. The activist intends to commemorate the victims of Stalin's Year of Terror. The rally is scheduled at the same time as "Daugavas Vanagi" procession - from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

As reported, taking into account security risks and the tense atmosphere in the community, Deputy Riga Executive Maris Kalve announced on March 6 that all seven pro and anti [WWII] Latvian Legion Day events scheduled for March 16, will be banned.
