RIGA - Latvia needs to introduce the institute of dual citizenship so the state does not lose children born in Latvian families living abroad, Saeima Chairwoman Solvita Aboltina (Unity) said at a conference on Latvian citizenship today, reports LETA.

Saeima must find a way to solve the problem. Amending the Citizenship Law to introduce dual citizenship for Latvian children born abroad is one of the key tasks for the 11th Saeima, said Aboltina.

Amendments to the Citizenship Law are currently being reviewed by the Citizenship Law Implementation Committee; the amendments provide introducing dual citizenship for Latvian nationals living abroad.
