FBI Director Mueller visits Latvia

RIGAOn Feb. 14, the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Robert S. Mueller III, made a brief visit to Latvia.

During his visit, Mueller met with Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity), Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis (ZRP), Justice Minister Gaidis Berzins (All for Latvia!-For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK), State Police Chief General Ints Kuzis and Constitution Protection Bureau Chief Janis Kazocins, LETA was informed by the U.S. Embassy to Latvia.

During the visit, the FBI director presented plaques to the Central Criminal Police Cybercrime Enforcement and Intellectual Property Rights Protection Unit as well as the International Cooperation Bureau at the State Police Headquarters to acknowledge the close partnership in cyber security between Latvia and the U.S.

The U.S. Embassy informs that the visit to Latvia highlights the close friendship and cooperation of both countries. Latvians and Americans collaborate closely, training together in the U.S. and Latvia and working together to combat terrorism, trans-national organized crime, and cybercrime. The FBI opened its Office of the Legal Attache Riga in June 2011, shortly after the U.S. Embassy moved to its current location.

Robert S. Mueller III was nominated by President George W. Bush and became the sixth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Sept. 4, 2001.
