TALLINN - While Finnish state institutions will soon give up using fixed-line phones, Estonia's public sector has not mulled such a plan, National Broadcasting reports.

"As far as I know, there has not been a wider discussion about giving up fixed-line phones in the public sector," said Kalev Vapper, headofEconomy and Communications Ministry PR department.

He said that the ministry's communications costs have fallen year after year. "Companies have presented a favourable offer for communications services to the economy and communications ministry and its administrative sphere – the calls between institutions of the governance sphere are free, for example," Vapper said.

The Finnish state chancellery forecasts that giving up fixed line phones would help them save 30-40percent state sector call costs. Finland will transfer to the new system in May.
