Temperatures to drop below -30 degrees Celsius on Friday night

RIGA - The deep freeze in Latvia will hold until at least Feb. 6, with the coldest temperatures to hit on Friday night and early Saturday morning, LETA was informed by the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center.

According to meteorologists, temperatures Friday night and early Saturday could drop to minus 33 degrees Celsius in eastern regions. Temperatures in most other areas of the country will be between minus 25 to minus 30 degrees Celsius that night. On the other hand, temperatures in Kurzeme Province (western Latvia) will be around minus 22 degrees Celsius on Friday night.

On the other hand, temperatures during the day on Saturday will be around minus 17 degrees Celsius in coastal areas, but from minus 19 to minus 22 degrees in most other areas of the country.

The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center informs that the deep freeze will last until at least Feb. 6, and that temperatures will dip to minus 30 degrees or lower four nights in row.
