Estonian government strengthens its positions in the UIF

TALLINN - The Estonian government on Feb. 2 approved a draft law initiated by the Riigikogu Social Committee that aims to guarantee required activities of the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) in a satiation where the fund's council lacks quorum to make decisions, LETA/National Broadcasting reports.

The bill gives the government the secondary right to approve the UIF budget and appoint and recall board members. The government's decision rights can be executed only in a situation where the council has not made these decisions in required order.

At the end of last year, the representatives of employers and trade unions resigned from the council of UIF due to conflict with the government, thus the council lacked quorum to approve of the fund's budget for this year.
