RIGA - On Jan. 31, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the membership of the Latvia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Scientific and Technical, Humanitarian, and Cultural Cooperation. The commission will be chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs. Before that, the commission has been chaired by the Ministers of Finance and the Minister of Economy. The commission is a major instrument for facilitating cooperation between Latvia and Russia.
The commission’s experts are engaged in the working groups for economic cooperation, transport, regional cooperation and humanitarian matters. A working group on border crossing point locations was set up in 2011. This year, the regular meetings of the intergovernmental commission and its working groups are to take place in Russia.
