Commemoration of January 1991: from Gorbachev to Kedys

VILNIUS - On Jan. 12 and 13 Lithuania commemorated the victims of the Soviet army aggression of 1991 when 14 unarmed Lithuanian civilians were killed and another 1,000 were injured as they defended the Vilnius TV tower and the Vilnius TV center from Soviet attacks. The Soviet attack on the parliament was then recalled due to huge crowds of civilians ready to stand in the way of Soviet tanks and paratroopers of the elite KGB group Alpha.
