RIGA - The winter season had a slow start this season, and in turn so did the skiing season. But everything is back to normal this weekend, as Latvia's resorts and recreation areas are reporting.

"Golgata" slopes in Vestiena report a record number of skiers on Saturday [Jan. 14] – 1,000. "Zagarkalns" in Cesis had 500, writes LETA.

Despite Saturday's snowfall, two recreation areas – "Riekstu kalns" and "Lido kalns" are opening their seasons later – either on Monday or a bit later – on Wednesday.
