RIGA – on Jan. 6, Riga Deputy Mayor Andris Ameriks told LETA that he expects at least 1.5 million tourists in the city in 2012, mentioning that if the port welcomed 70 cruise ships last year, then 90 are awaited this year. Many more people are now arriving by bus, he outlined.

Ameriks also mentioned steps to ease issuance of visas.

"Another positive point – now there is a joint unit, i.e. agency, and a joint portal – LIVE RIGA, which has certainly paid off," said Ameriks.
