RIGA - The referendum on granting the status of a state language to Russian will take place on Feb. 18, the Central Election Commission (CEC) decided on Jan. 3, reports LETA.CEC Chairman Arnis Cimdars proposed organizing the referendum on this day so to ensure enough time to prepare voting stations abroad.As reported, during an emergency session on Dec. 22, Saeima turned down Constitutional amendments which would have granted state language status to Russian.LETA also reported, from Nov. 1 - 31, a total of 187,378 voters signed the petition for staging a referendum on g...
