RIGA - Some 60 people were waiting in line at Citadele bank’s branch at the shopping center “Origo” in Riga shortly after the branch opened at 8:30 a.m., reports LETA, quoting news portal Nozare.lv.

Most of people in line are senior citizens.

There are also long lines at Citadele branches elsewhere in Riga and Latvia. Some 40 people were waiting in line at Citadele branch on Barona Street in Riga.

Around 60 people gathered at Citadele branch in Jelgava before the opening, whereas in Ventspils, where there is only one Citadele branch, people began arriving already at 3 a.m.

In Daugavpils, more than a hundred residents were waiting in line when the Citadele branch opened.

However, there are no lines at Citadele head offices at Republikas Square in Riga.

As reported, compensation payments from the Deposit Guarantee Fund for the defunct Latvijas Krajbanka’s depositors commence today via Citadele branches.

At the moment, "Citadele" has a total of 42 branches and offices in Latvia, including 20 in Riga.
