Latvian government agreed on financial support to Turkey

RIGA - On Nov. 8, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted the decision about allocating EUR 50,000 (LVL 35,140) for providing assistance to the inhabitants of the Republic of Turkey in order to deal with the aftermaths of the earthquake. The funding will be allocated from the state budget program Funds for Unforeseen Events and transferred to the Turkish Red Cross, reports Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As reported earlier, on Oct. 23, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck the Eastern part of Turkey; this earthquake is one of the most severe over the recent years. As a result, in the Van region, more than 2,000 houses were destroyed and more than 600 people died, but tens of thousands were left homeless.
