New government approved

The new government will be made up of Unity, ZRP and VL-TB/LNNK.

RIGA -- Latvia's parliament has approved the makeup of a new government headed by Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis.

It is the third consecutive Cabinet to be headed by Dombrovskis, who becomes the first person in history to lead three governments in a row.

Parliament approved the new government with a vote of 57 in favor and 38 against. The government will be made up of Unity, ZRP, VL-TB/LNNK, and six independent MPs, who together control 56 seats in the 100-member uni-cameral legislature.

The country's new Cabinet will have the following makeup:

Prime Minister: Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity)

Speaker of Parliament: Solvita Aboltina (Unity)

Defense: Artis Pabriks (Unity)

Finance: Andris Vilks (Unity)

Health: Ingrida Circene (Unity)

Welfare: Ilze Vinkele (Unity)

Foreign: Edgars Rinkevics (ZRP)

Economy: Daniels Pavluts (ZRP)

Interior: Rihards Kozlovskis (ZRP)

Education: Roberts Kilis (ZRP)

Environment: Edmunds Sprudzs (ZRP)

Culture: Zaneta Jaunzeme-Grende (VL-TB/LNNK)

Justice: Gaidis Berzins (VL-TB/LNNK)

Agriculture: Laimdota Straujuma (Unity)

Transport: Aivis Ronis (Independent)
