VILNIUS -- The Lithuanian defense ministry has announced that a mid-air collision that occured between two NATO planes earlier this year was the result of a "misunderstanding"

An investigation into the event revealed that the Lithuanian and French pilots had interpreted orders differently, leading to the mid-air collision that caused one plane to crash.

The collision took place between Lithuania's light attack aircraft L-39 ZA Albatross and a French fighter aircraft Mirage 2000 C during a training operation.
