VILNIUS -- Arturas Zuokas, the outspoken mayor of Lithuania's capital, has proposed the government buying an island in Greece to use as a resort.

"After the island's registration by Lithuanian government, it wouldn't just be an exclusive place for rest in the Mediterranean for our citizens, but also a great global advert for Lithuania," he said in a statement.

Zuokas is known for a history of corruption (he was convicted of bribery and thrown out of office in 2007, only to return in the last elections) and outlandish ideas. He was recently thrust into the international spotlight after using a Russian tank to crush illegally parked cars.
