Estonia appoints new Defense Forces chief

TALLINN -- Estonia' government has appoint a new Commander-in-Chief of the National Defense Forces, Brig. Gen. Riho Terras.

Current DF Chief Ants Laaneots's five-year term is up in December. Defense Minister Mart Laar appointed the new candidate, who will still need approval from the rest of the Cabinet.

"Thanks to his career and service to this point, Terras has a very good, strong understanding of the functioning of the Estonian state and the shaping of security policy decisions. As a former secretary general of the Defense Ministry, he is well up to date with both the civilian and military side of national defense," Laar was quoted as saying by ERR News.
