Estonia looks to join UNHRC

TALLINN -- Estonia has announced its intention to join the UN Human Rights Council as early as next year.

Foreign Minister Urmas Paet announced the news at a meeting with Human Rights Watch during his visit to the 66th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The UNHRC is an intergovernmental council formed in 2006 to advance human rights worldwide.
