Escaped bear shuts down national park

LIGATNE -- Police and park rangers are on the lookout for a bear that is on the loose in the forests around Ligatne, an area very popular with berry and mushroom hunters at this time of year.

The female brown bear, named Made, sliipped out of a nature reserve Thursday evening through a hole in a fence. Sections of the park and nearby roads have been closed while workers search for the animal.

Ligatne is a popular nature reserve located at the Gauja National Park in central Latvia.
