RIGA -- FIFA has announced that it is banning for life six referees who were involved in a match fixing scandal that involved the Latvian and Estonian national teams.

The referees, who hail from Hungary and Bosnia, were found guilty of fixing two matches -- one between Latvia and Bolivia, one between Estonia and Bulgaria. Seven goals were scored in the two matches, all of them on penalties.

Authorities said the match fixing had helped organized crime sydictes win millions of pounds in betting.
