RIGA -- The latest GDP report from eurostat, the EU's official statistics agency, has found that the Baltic states are among the poorest countries in the bloc.

Though the report contains no surprises, it offers more refined information about the per capita GDP of EU countries.

Bulgaria and Romania were at the bottom of the list with a GDP-per-capita of 43% and 45% of the EU average, respectively. They are followed by Latvia and Lithuania at 52% and 58%, while Estonia comes in two places higher up at 65%.

The richest EU country was Luxembourg at 283% of the EU average, followed by the Netherlands at 134%.
