TALLINN - The number of people who earned at least a million Estonians kroons (64,100 euros) grew by almost a fifth last year in Estonia, to 1,947, reports Aripaev. According to the fresh statistics of the Tax and Customs Board, the average declared income and the number of people who earned more than a million kroons grew again last year, but the number was far from the 2,570 in 2008.

The Board’s service management department lead specialist Hannes Udde said that the number of million-kroon-earners increased mainly due to people earning business income, income from the sale of property and people who earned their million when working abroad.

Udde said that while it is too early to forecast how many people would declare comparable income for this year, when the economy grows, the number of high earners should grow.
While the number of income tax declarations that was submitted was a bit smaller than the year before, the average income per declaration grew, from 139,200 kroons to 144,800 kroons.
36,067 FIEs, or individual entrepreneurs, submitted an income tax declaration for last year, declaring an average of 38,400 kroons of taxable income, versus 31,750 kroons a year ago.
