Lithuanian wins European chess championship

VILNIUS -- Lithuania's Viktorija Cmilyte, 27, has won the European women's chess championships in Tblisi Georgia.

Cmilyte took the victory with a win as white over Russia's Svetlana Matvejeva.

It is her first win at the event, having come in second place three times in recent years. Cmilyte received 20,000 euros in prize money and will be assured a spot in the world championships later this year. She was later congratulated by Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite.
