TALLINN -- Estonia's legal affairs ombudsman has found the ministry of social affairs guilty of discrimination after a candidate for an EU post was ruled out for his political affiliations.

The ombudsman's office said the ministry would have to apologize for its decision to drop Peep Mardiste's application on the grounds that he is a member of the country's green party.

"The Chancellor of Justice couldn't have made any other decision because it was so obvious that I was discriminated for being in the wrong political party," Peep Mardiste told national news portal uudised.err.ee.
