TALLINN -- Around 25,000 people have turned out for this year's "Volunteer initiative day", nearly double the expected participation.

The May 7 event featured nearly 700 teams around the country doing community volunteer work, such as garbage collection.

Volunteer initiative day was launched in 2008, when some 50,000 people took part in a massive campaign to collect and dispose of litter and illegal garbage dumps.
