VILNIUS -- Lithuanian Environment Minister Gediminas Kazlauskas has survived a vote of no-confidence and will continue in his post.

He is the second minister in as many weeks to come safely through a vote of no-confidence, symbolizing a key setback for an aggressive opposition. The opposition was five votes short of the 70 needed to sack the minister.

"The results are eloquent enough, and the opposition has a very serious choice - whether to continue what the municipal elections showed, that voters are very clear that they do not value their's as serious policy, or turn to face the real issues," Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius said.
