VILNIUS - The municipal governments of Lithuania's three largest cities are going to be forced to return nearly 5 million litas of EU funding, alfa.lt reported.

The funds had been earmarked for reforming the payment system on public transport in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda. The system that was built, however, offers no substantial improvement over the previous system, leading the EU to demand some 4.8 million litas back from the three cities.

The ministry of transport said that the funds would have to be returned within 60 days.
