RIGA - The Latvian State Police are facing widespread downsizing this summer, national news agency LETA reported.

The cuts will depend on the results of a special task force that was created to determine which local police stations could survive personnel cuts, state police representative Aija Kalnaja said. The task force is due to report it's results to police chief Artis Velss on June 1 this year.

It is still not known how many officers will be laid off.
