VILNIUS - Lithuanian energy minister Arvydas Sekmokashad demanded the resignation of the national energy companies top two executives.

Sekmokas said the two had a conflict of interest because they also hold positions on the Gazprom board. Lithuania has recently lashed out against Gazprom because the Russian energy giant offered higher rates for the country than it provided for the other Baltic states.

"The comany Lietuvos Dujos is ignoring the interests of the Lithuanian state as a shareholder as well as those of the natural gas consumers and has actually become a branch of Gazprom. The Ministry of Energy is going to further take all legal measures to protect the Lithuanian consumers of natural gas from the dictate of the monopolists," the minister said.
